Am 31. Oktober 2022 haben die Cisco Catalyst 2960-X(R) Switches ihren von Cisco festgelegten Verkaufsstopp (End-of-Sales) erreicht und am 30. April haben auch die Modelle ohne Lüfter dieses Datum erreichen. Damit ging nach dem Verkaufsstart der Catalyst 2960-X(R) Switches am 24. Mai 2013 die erfolgreiche Ära einer Familie von Access Switches zu Ende.
Cisco wird bei den Catalyst 2960-X(R) Switches am 31. Oktober 2023 die Wartung des Betriebssystems (Software Maintenance) dieser Switches und am 31. Oktober dann auch den Support (Last Date of Support) einstellen. Letztgenannten Meilenstein haben die Cisco Switches der Serie 2960 und 2960-S schon lange erreicht. Mit Blick auf die genannten Meilensteine, die Tatsache, dass die Catalyst 2960-X(R) Switches schon 10 Jahre auf dem Markt sind und neue Anforderungen im Kontext der Digitalisierung und Sicherheit sollte eine Auswechslung der bestehenden Access Switches in Erwägung gezogen werden. Diese Auswechslung kann zumindest mit Blick auf den Einsatzbereich (Access) als positionsgetreu bezeichnet. Cisco hat als Nachfolgeprodukt die Catalyst 9200 Switches vorgesehen.
